I grew up in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. My childhood in Brevard was filled with long hikes with my family in what seemed to be my very own personal playground, the Pisgah National Forest. The boundaries of my childhood were dependent only on how far my imagination and the two wheels of my bicycle could carry me. As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a woodworker. And, after trying to follow the traditional path of college and a “normal” life, I finally found my way back to those childhood dreams. In 2002 I stumbled into the Professional Crafts Program at Haywood Community College, thinking I would learn a few things about joinery and finishing. Instead, I opened a door to a whole new universe. Being a craftsperson to me is as much about building community as it is about building furniture.
